Description

Brief Description:
Researchers are enrolling adults (50+ years of age) with MS for a remotely-delivered, home-based exercise training program for promoting cognition and physical function.

What is this study about?
The goal of this clinical trial is to examine the feasibility and efficacy of a home-based exercise training program for adults (50+ years) with MS who have cognitive and walking impairment. We are interested in examining whether the exercise training program can produce improvements in cognition, mobility, physical activity and quality of life among middle-aged and older adults with MS.

What will I do?

Participants who are eligible will be randomly assigned to one of two exercise programs. One exercise program will consist of both aerobic and resistance training exercises, while the other program will focus on stretching and flexibility as an important part of fitness. Both programs are designed specifically for adults (50+ years of age) with MS and will be adjusted and personalized based on your needs, capabilities, and experiences.
  • Engage in 16 weeks of home-based exercise training (3 times per week)
  • Meet with a training coach online occasionally
  • Complete 3 in-person laboratory visits over 32 weeks for non-invasive assessments on cognition, walking, physical function, MS symptoms, and quality of life
Participants will receive exercise equipment, one-on-one coaching, training manuals, newsletters, and compensation for completing the study.

You may be eligible if you:
  • Are 50 years of age or older
  • Have a diagnosis of MS
  • Have mild-to-moderate cognitive and walking impairment (we will screen you via telephone)
  • Have internet and email access
